Plymouth quartet, Crazy Arm, is the versatile, roots-punk lovechild that arose from two popular UK bands, NoComply and The Once Over Twice.
Although forming in May 2005, it wasn't until their respective bands split up a year later that they became a more serious concern.
Pitched somewhere between the dark twang of 16 Horsepower, the punk thrust of Fugazi and Hot Water Music, the crunchy pop of Ted Leo and the protest songs of Dick Gaughan, the band have developed a distinctly progressive and aggressive style, shot through with a healthy dose of grass-roots politics. They rely chiefly on folk/country open tunings and slide guitars to evoke moods that are at odds with the punk orthodoxy.
The band are all vegetarian/vegan, internationalist and atheist; identify with human and animal rights struggles; and support the efforts of grass-roots activists worldwide.
Crazy Arm have completed many UK tours with numerous one-off shows and festivals, playing and striking up friendships with the likes of Sonic Boom Six, Failsafe, Howards Alias, Capdown, The Cut Ups, The Computers, Solutions, OK Pilot, Random Hand, Intro5pect, Chillerton, Lucero and The Casting Out.
After signing to Seven Inch Records for their debut 7" release 'Broken By The Wheel', Crazy Arm went out on the road for a full UK tour in March 09 with Bangers.
Their critically acclaimed debut album 'Born To Ruin' was released in June 2009 by Xtra Mile and the band went back out on the road, playing shows with Propagandhi, This Is A Standoff, A New Day and OK Pilot.
Following a busy summer, 'Harry Fabian Flynn' was released as a download only single by Xtra Mile and another UK tour was completed with the final show of the tour at The Croft in Bristol with Drag The River and Chris Wollard & The Shiptheives in December.
2010 has so far been a busy year for the band, with a full session aired on Mike Davies Radio 1 Punk Show, a short run of European dates in February and a full European tour in March & April supporting Frank Turner & Chuck Ragan (Hot Water Music). Their next single released on Xtra Mile was a split with Frank Turner, their track is the live favourite 'Still To Keep'.
This summer the band will be playing several festival dates across the UK and Europe, including the Reading & Leeds festivals.
Their self-produced demo EP, 'Cross Country', recieved an amazing response from the UK rock and punk press, but is however no longer available.
Crazy Arm released their debut single 'Broken By The Wheel' as a Ltd Edition 7" Beige vinyl through Seven Inch Records in April 09 with an exclusive B side 'British Steel'.
Their album 'Born To Ruin' was produced by Pete Miles and released thru Xtra Mile Recordings in June 09 with download only singles 'Harry Fabian Flynn' & 'Still To Keep' also released by Xtra Mile.
The album was highly praided across the board in the UK press, and was voted 25th best album in Big Cheese Magazines top 50 albums of 2009.
The band were also voted Best New Band.
In November 2009, Crazy Arm recorded their first radio session for Mike Davies Radio 1 Punk Show at the BBC's Maida Vale studios. The tracks were aired along with an interview with Mike in February 2010. If anyone would like a copy of the show / session, please email us and we will send you a copy.
